MADRE is located in the historic Palazzo Donnaregina in the historic center of Naples. Opened in part on June 11, 2005, it was completely finished in 2007 and exhibition spaces were expanded by Portuguese architect Alvaro Siza.
The Permanent Collection boasts works by internationally renowned artists such as Andy Warhol, Alberto Burri, Lucio Fontana, Robert Mapplethorpe, Francesco Clemente, Jannis Kounellis, Giulio Paolini, Richard Serra, Jeff Koons, Richard Long, Rebecca Horn, Alfredo Pirucha, Domenico Paladino, and Piero Manzoni.
